11 year old Wayde, while pitching in his team's (Better Baseball Training) baseball game today was struck hard in the face by a comebacker.
Wayde, who didn’t have time to react, sustained significant injuries.
Wayde was hospitalized and as of this writing, is out of his first surgery, but was sent to UC Davis out of an abundance of caution. CT scan results are pending but as of now we know Wayde has multiple fractures in his upper and lower jaw, missing teeth, and lacerations requiring significant stitching.
Needless to say, this is a baseball parent's worst nightmare.
Wayde’s Mom Jen is the sole provider in his home and a single mother. She will need to miss work and will be without pay in order to assist in Wayde's inevitable recovery in the coming days and weeks. Jen is a hard working, blue collar single mother who does the world so that Wayde can have a roof over his head, food in his belly, and a glove on his hand. In other words...she does everything she can to let him play ball.
It's fair to say they're not prepared for something like this financially--I mean, if we have to really ask ourselves...who is? I could go over all the hardship stories...but the reality is that this one takes the case.
Wayde needs help. Jen needs help.
Wayde is a great kid who loves baseball. We know he will be back out in the mound when he’s able! In the meantime, anything that you can contribute to help reduce this unanticipated burden from Wayde and Jen is very much needed and appreciated.
Thanks for your time and consideration. We will keep you posted on Wayde’s condition and recovery.
I hope the local community will step up. Please share amongst your baseball forums and message boards. Anything and everything would matter.
