It's past time to make a disclosure and a plea.
For the last 4+ years, I've watched my lifelong best friend Bill Buysse heroically fight the on-going encroachment of melanoma cancer. For the uninitiated, melanoma usually starts small. In Bill's case it was a tiny, nondescript mole near his groin that the surgeons ultimately staged at 3c. Melanoma at this level is deadly serious. His oncologist was also deadly serious when he told Bill that there could come a time when he would be told to ‘go home and get his affairs in order.’
What has happened to Bill since is textbook melanoma. Think of the cancerous cells like a cruise ship on a tour of your entire body via the bloodstream, with shore stops to drop off staph and cellulite bacteria. In Bill’s case, the shore stops of these evildoers had him back in the hands of the surgeons with infections in his back, neck, leg and finger…just to name a few.
Surgery after surgery. Pain killer cocktails that barely made a dent but nevertheless sucked him into the abyss of dependency.
We’ve stayed in very close contact throughout all of this and he never ceased to amaze me with his attitude of “faith first, then all else falls into place” attitude since he got ‘the call’ from the Mayo. In spite of his attitude, reality started capsizing his life. Logic would totally dictate that you might ask questions like:
How has he held down a job?? Simple....he can’t, there’s no way! (These evildoers cost him a lucrative consulting career!)
How does he pay his medical bills you might ask?? Simple....he did, now he can't.
How is he making ends meet now you might ask?? Simple....he could and did and now he can't.
Has he applied for disability?? Simple.....he has and has been turned down for the last time. (The approval process in this country for those LEGITIMATELY disabled makes me want to vomit!)
It’s been heart wrenching to watch my best friend get knocked down so many times but he keeps on moving forward with a smile. Yet…there is a REALITY.
Bill needs a lifeline thrown to him until he is back on his feet so he never has to reach for one again! He needs help to buy some time while he re-invents himself. (His chronic and limited mobility precludes him from being able to stand and walk for any length of time.)
I'm excited to help prime the pump but I need people to help. I need a LOT of people to help. I’m reminded when Robert Schuller built the Crystal Cathedral in California, he said “I’m not looking for 5 people to donate a million dollars each, rather a million who can help with $5.00 each.”
HERE GOES: We need to give Bill a helping hand until he can help himself. We need to ‘create his break’ by donating to his cause. Thank You in advance for donating whatever you feel comfortable with. Thank You in advance for sharing this with your FB friends.
I will personally match dollar for dollar the first $500 of donations. Let's cruise past $25k like two ships passing in the night! In case I forgot to say thank you.....Thank You!
LET’S MAKE THIS WORK!
