Tiny Helmets for Tiny Heads
Donation protected
At around 4 months old we discovered that our son had a flat spot on the back of his head. These aren't uncommon, but when it didn't go away we consulted our doctor. After a referral and diagnostic testing, it turned out to be Plagiocephaly.
Plagiocephaly is caused by a few things, but the majority of babies develop a flat spot from lying on their back when they sleep. While lying baby on their back is being recommended to parents to prevent SIDS, parents are not being as well educated about Plagiocephaly.

While some baby’s heads will round out when they become more mobile, this is not the case for many babies. The solution to this very treatable problem is the use of a Cranial Remolding Orthosis (helmet) to reshape the skull and realign the ears. Without these helmets, babies could go through life with chronic conditions such as lockjaw, arthritis, ear infections, asymmetry of face and head, and issues with getting glasses that fit properly. These issues cannot be corrected after the age of two.

Unfortunately, these devices are not covered by OHIP and the full cost of these helmets is $2,600.00. Many families do not have benefits or the families that do are not being covered at 100%. As a result of this, many babies are going without helmets because families simply cannot afford them. In fact, there are 3 families (through Custom Orthotics of London) who are currently in search of funding. This is where we hope you come in.

Our goal is to raise $7,500 to cover the cost of 2 helmets plus the Go Fund Me fees. This fundraiser will have it's official debut on May 1, 2021 and run for the entire month of May.
We interviewed Dawn, the owner of Custom Orthotics of London, on our podcast Wine-y Parents. She gave us a wealth of information about the conditions these helmets correct as well as why it's so important to get the families that need them their helmets as early as possible. If you'd like to listen to our interview, it can be found here or you can search Wine-y Parents wherever you listen to podcasts.
If you cannot donate, please consider sharing our cause on social media. It may not seem like much, but helping our story reach a wider audience really will make a difference.

We really hope that as a community we can all come together to help these families give their children the medical care that they need to make their futures the best that they can be.
Thank you for reading and for considering donating to our cause. It is very much appreciated by us and the families in need.
