Help Shanan recover from horrific riding accident

Donation protected
Update ** First, I want to thank each and every individual who has so willingly donated to assist while I recover from my accident. I am so humbled to be surrounded by all of this love and support. Yesterday, January 5th, 2021 my mom took me to my first Orthopedic appt. I ended up breaking both of my bones in my wrist and was placed into a hard cast. I am due back in two weeks to visit the surgeon because of how my radius bone broke I may end up with surgery to reposition it.  My left knee at this time was still too swollen for the doctor to access the damage, which will be revisited in two weeks as well. Three nights ago in my mom's kitchen, I began to feel a feeling of compression in the middle of my spine. Later that night as I was trying to adjust myself for bed I ever so slightly leaned back and it felt like a needle went straight up my spine. The orthopedic doctor revisited my CT scan from the day of my accident and said the area I was pointing to looked suspect and possibly irregular. We took two X-rays of my back and although there is no sign of fracture we are going to re-access in two weeks at my appt. Within two weeks if the feeling in my spine increases we will do an MRI right away. If at the appt my feeling in my spine is still existent at the appt we will proceed with the MRI to get more imaging to find out what's going on. Keeping my fingers crossed because that has me nervous the most right now. I do have a slight concussion and have many other bruises all over and muscles that were injured which will take a good time to heal. Praying for the best outcome, but know my road to recovery will be a little lengthy. Thank you all for your prayers and generosity during this hard time, it means everything.

On January 1st, 2021, my sister Shanan Hehir was enjoying a New Years Day ride with her
horse Auspicious. Horses and riding have always been Shanan’s life passion, one that started
when she was 4 years old. On this day as she was finishing up her ride, she and “Aussie” went
to transition to a canter when tragedy struck. Aussie lost his footing and fell to the ground
with Shanan still in the saddle. Reacting to the fall, he got back up quickly not allowing Shanan
to dismount or free herself from the saddle. Once back to his feet Auspicious took off running.
In a state of shock and horror, Shanan was unable to free herself and her right foot remained
stuck in the stirrup. As Aussie kept moving, she dangled helplessly and continued to get
slammed into the ground and violently tossed around. Shanan was violently dragged and
nearly trampled by Aussie’s rear feet for a quarter of a mile. Scared for her life and fearing
death, Shanan screamed for help. Thankfully, her stirrup finally broke free from the saddle and
she was able to free herself. Shanan was thrown into the field as her barn owners came
running out. They immediately called 911 and she was transported by the Arlington Rescue
Squad to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Aussie is currently being treated for a
suspected leg injury that he sustained during the event. Shanan is currently under the care of
her family as she is immobile at this time.

Shanan and our family are no strangers to tragedy. In September 2010, we lost our beloved
sister, Erin. In the years to follow, Shanan found solace and healing in the pasture and at the
barn. Her love for horses was inherited by her two children Callaghan and Raegan, both of
whom have become quite enamored with Auspicious. Shanan has always worked hard to
provide for herself and her children, most recently becoming a small business owner at
Shanan’s Absolute Tile, LLC. In light of recent events, Shanan’s independence and quality of
life hang in the balance.

After having received treatment at SVMC, she was discharged with a broken right arm,
multiple contusions, and abrasions to her entire body. We are awaiting further diagnosis of
newly developed back pain. Shanan is a fighter and we are all very fortunate to still have
Shanan in our lives as this event could have easily turned fatal. During this time, Shanan will
be unable to work. She had to postpone her recently scheduled tiling jobs; resulting in lost
wages and will also have the burden of medical bills from the accident. 2020 was an
unprecedented year and surely a financial and spiritual drain on everyone. We are trying to
raise funds to help Shanan in her healing process; physically, mentally, and monetarily. Any
money collected will go towards medical and personal expenses incurred during this time.

Thank you for your consideration and GOD BLESS.
