Step into the shoes of our protagonist. Your uncle is missing, declared dead, and you ask yourself, “what happened to him?” After seven years, you and your family finally begin to clean out the house that has long sat empty. You come across a radio, and you take it home as a keepsake.

When you go to fix it up, hoping to listen to it like you did in your youth, something inexplicable has happened — in its place is a turntable. Next to it, a record.

Desperate for answers, you contact every living person who could possibly explain what happened. You chase the enigma of the artist behind the cover art of the magically appearing record. You descend into a fury of questions.

What if everything you understood vanished as soon as you found it? What is behind that door you keep seeing? What if everything you knew was a lie?

Use of Funds:

Because of the mixed-media nature of the film, parts of it will be shown on digitized VHS, a process that is quite costly.

Roughly $1000 for professional actors and crew will be allotted toward the film. This includes a specialty gaffer (electrician), specialized lighting equipment, music rights to an original score, and original art commissions.

In addition, money will be designated for set design, props, costumes, makeup, location agreements, and day-of funds like craft services (because feeding and hydrating people is important).

We also hope to submit HELIX to film festivals, which have their own expenses.

All in all, your funds will not go to waste.

Q: What’s this for?

A: HELIX is Bella’s senior capstone project. She will be graduating from KU’s Film and Media department in May 2024, and HELIX will be the culmination of everything she’s learned in school.

Q: When will you be filming?

A: HELIX will be filmed over the 2024 Spring semester.

Q: Who is a part of the film?

A: Our cast and crew consist mostly of current students at the University of Kansas, as well as a handful of industry professionals.

Q: When will the film be finished?

A: We expect to have a final cut of HELIX in May 2024.
