Help Our Little Melody – We Are Fighting for Our Daughter’s Life ❤️

There is nothing more heartbreaking for parents than having to watch their own child suffer, while knowing that there may be a treatment that could help, yet access to it seems almost impossible.

Our little daughter Melody suffers from an extremely rare and severe genetic disorder called POLG-related mitochondrial disease, associated with Alpers-Huttenlocher syndrome.

This disease affects the energy supply of the body’s cells and can cause severe damage to the brain, muscles, and other vital organs.

Our family’s life changed from one day to the next. Our little Melody is fighting every single day!

Melody suffers from severe epileptic seizures that are sometimes extremely difficult to control. Her illness has significantly affected her physical development. She experiences profound muscle weakness and, due to her medical condition, requires feeding through a tube.

Our daily lives are filled with worry, medical examinations, treatments, and the constant fear that her condition may deteriorate further. There are days when we barely know where to find the strength to keep fighting.

And yet, we refuse to give up.

Because Melody is our daughter. And as long as there is even the slightest possibility of helping her, we will do everything in our power to find a way.

After countless conversations, extensive research, and consultations with international specialists, we discovered a potential treatment approach that has given us new hope.

In Montreal, Canada, experimental substances have been studied that might also be an option for our little Melody.

But then came another devastating blow.

The clinical trial is currently no longer being conducted. This means Melody cannot participate.

For us, this means that we must try to gain access to these experimental treatments outside of a clinical trial and cover the associated costs ourselves.

The estimated cost of this alone could be approximately 500,000 Swiss francs (CHF).

We have also been made aware of a specialized clinic near Lake Constance, where we would like to explore further medical possibilities.

Unfortunately, these treatment options are not covered by our health insurance.

As parents, we are facing a situation that is almost impossible to put into words.

There may be a way to help our seriously ill child. Yet between that hope and the possibility of even trying, there is an enormous financial barrier.

But we do not want to give up simply because we lack the financial means to explore potential treatments and, if appropriate, make them possible for Melody.

That is why we are asking for your support from the bottom of our hearts.
