Eine Freundschaft, die 14 Jahre überdauert hat
Im Jahr 2012 lernte ich in Gondar, Äthiopien, während des Timkat-Festivals Hailemichael Amsalu Tadege kennen. Mittlerweile ist er zweifacher Akademiker (M.A. in Soziologie), der sein Leben als Dozent an der Universität von Gondar und als Experte für Kinderschutz und HIV-Prävention in den Dienst seiner Gemeinschaft gestellt hat. Über 14 Jahre hielten wir Kontakt. Doch nun hat ihn ein Schicksalsschlag getroffen, den er allein nicht bewältigen kann.
Der Vorfall: Angeschossen auf dem Weg zur Arbeit
Vor zwei Monaten geschah das Unfassbare: Hailemichael war auf dem Rückweg von einer Datenrecherche für sein neues Buch. Sein Transportmittel wurde von bewaffneten Angreifern beschossen, die versuchten, ihn zu entführen. Zwei Kugeln durchschlugen das Fahrzeug und trafen Hailemichael schwer am Bein und am Rücken.
Die medizinische Realität: Kugel im Rücken & Trümmerbruch
Die medizinischen Berichte zeichnen ein dramatisches Bild:
• Schussverletzung: Er leidet unter einem Trauma am linken Bein und Rücken. Eine Kugel steckt noch immer fest.
• Diagnose: Die Ärzte stellten eine Nervenschädigung (Neuropraxie) und Taubheitsgefühle im Fuß fest.
• Notwendige OP: Er benötigt dringend eine "External Fixation" – eine komplexe chirurgische Stabilisierung des Knochens mittels Metallstiften und eines externen Rahmens.
• Psychische Folgen: Die Gewalt hat tiefe Wunden hinterlassen. Offizielle Dokumente attestieren ihm posttraumatischen Stress und schwere psychische Krisen (Psychosen), die ihn monatelang arbeitsunfähig machten.
Ein Mann, der alles für andere gibt
Hailemichael ist der Alleinversorger seiner Familie. Seine Eltern sind 74 Jahre alt und leiden an chronischen Krankheiten wie Diabetes und Bronchitis. Seine Frau hat zwar ihr Studium abgeschlossen, findet aber in der aktuellen Krise keine Arbeit. Trotz seiner eigenen Schmerzen nutzt er derzeit teure Privat-Transporte, um überhaupt zu den medizinischen Behandlungen zu gelangen, da er nicht mehr laufen kann.
Unser Ziel: 6.600 Euro für ein neues Leben
Die Gesamtkosten für die Operation, den Krankenhausaufenthalt, Medikamente und die Nachsorge belaufen sich auf ca. 1,5 Millionen Äthiopische Birr.
• Ein Teil wurde durch lokale Hilfe und Ersparnisse bereits gedeckt.
• Es fehlen noch rund 1,2 Millionen ETB (ca. 6.600 €).
In einem Land, das von Konflikten und Entführungen gezeichnet ist, zählt jede Hilfe doppelt. Hailemichael hat als Dozent und Autor so viel für die Bildung in seinem Land getan – jetzt braucht er uns, um wieder auf die Beine zu kommen.
Ich bürge persönlich dafür, dass jede Spende zu 100 % für seine medizinische Versorgung verwendet wird. Alle Dokumente (Diplome, Arztberichte, Uni-Zertifikate) liegen mir vor und können eingesehen werden.

A friendship spanning 14 years
In 2012, while attending the Timkat Festival in Gondar, Ethiopia, I met Hailemichael Amsalu Tadege. He is a man of remarkable intellect and character – a dual degree holder (M.A. in Sociology from the University of Gondar and B.Ed. in History from Bahir Dar University). For over a decade, he has dedicated his life as a lecturer and an expert in child protection and HIV prevention. We have stayed in touch for 14 years, but now he has been struck by a tragedy he cannot overcome alone.
The Incident: Shot while conducting research
Two months ago, the unthinkable happened: Hailemichael was returning from data collection for a book he is currently writing. His vehicle was fired upon by armed attackers attempting a kidnapping. Two bullets pierced the vehicle, striking Hailemichael in the leg and back.
The Medical Reality: A bullet in his back & severe trauma
Medical reports and official documents paint a dire picture:
• Gunshot Wounds: He suffered trauma to his left leg and back, with a bullet still lodged in his body.
• Diagnosis: Doctors identified nerve damage (neuropraxia) and numbness in his foot.
• Urgent Surgery: He urgently requires "External Fixation" – a complex surgical procedure using metal pins and an external frame to stabilize the bone.
• Psychological Toll: The violence left deep scars. Official medical certificates confirm post-traumatic stress (P-stress) and severe psychological crises (psychosis) that left him unable to work for months.
A man who gives everything for others
Hailemichael is the sole provider for his family. His parents are over 74 years old and suffer from chronic illnesses like diabetes and bronchitis. Despite his own intense pain, he currently has to pay for private transport to reach medical facilities because he can no longer walk or use public transportation.
Our Goal: 6.600 Euro for a new life
The total cost for the surgery, hospital stay, medication, and follow-up care is estimated at approximately 1.5 million Ethiopian Birr (ETB).
• Hailemichael has managed to collect 300,000 ETB through local help and personal savings.
• Approximately 1.2 million ETB (approx. $7.700 / 6.600 €) is still missing to cover the medical costs.
In a region marked by conflict, every bit of help is amplified. Hailemichael has done so much for education and social welfare in his country. Now, he needs us to get back on his feet.
I personally vouch that 100% of all donations will be used for his medical care. All documents (diplomas, medical records, university certificates) are available for verification.
