Help us raise £7500 to Save our Hearts the Helensburgh & Lomond Community!
Every year in our Helensburgh, Lomond, Cardross & Garelochside area over 200 members of our community suffer a heart attack at home, in the street, at work, out doing their normal everyday business.
For the last 5yrs Helensburgh Garelochside Rotary Heartstart, have been raising funds, putting defibrillator units into the community and training over 3000 of us to ensure that if any of us were to have a heart attack in the community we would have the best chance of surviving until the emergency services arrived to stabilise us and take us to hospital - once in hospital, we have an 85% chance of surviving!
Helensburgh & Local District CPR/Defibrillator Association, our community partner, have put over 50 defibrillator units into our local area. In the last 2 yrs alone these units have been used many times and Helensburgh & West Dunbartonshire have saved 30 lives! We estimate though that currently our defibrillators are used in only about 10% of the "in the community heart attack" events that occur.
Over the next 10yrs we want to increase that to at least 50% - saving 5X more lives!. To achieve this goal we need 3 things: 1) step change the awareness of defibrillator locations within our community - we have an app for this!, 2) train another 3000 community members in CPR and the use of our defibrillators, so they have the confidence to use them. We have had 8yr & 80yr olds saving lives! - with our exceptional group of trainers we deliver the highest quality training for free, 3) every year increase the number of defibrillators in our community - in 2021 our goal is to put 5 new defibrillators into underserved areas of our community. They cost approx. £1500 each to purchase and install - thus the £7500 funding goal!
