Helen's Wheelchair Van Fundraiser

I have been a paraplegic for 37 years. My current van is a 2007 Uplander and has been problematic since I purchased it in 2018, and now has so many issues that it won’t be long before I am unable to drive it. I have had a couple of mechanics inspect it, and they have not even been able to identify the cause of one of the many problems with this van. Sadly, I have had to invest so much money in repairs already, and I can’t afford to continue to do so when there is no guarantee that the van will last much longer. I am fortunate though that I have recently been approved by the state of Maryland to pay for van modifications costing approx $40,000, but they will only do them on a van that is no more than 3 years old and has less than 36,000 miles. In researching used vans, it will cost me approximately $45,000 to purchase one to meet their qualifications for modifications. I have always been a frugal and thrifty person, and have saved 15,000 over my lifetime, which I will use towards a van, but still need additional funds as soon as possible. I live on SSDI, and have a very small resell business that I use to supplement my disability income. It will take the state time to make these modifications and I’m hoping my current van will last until they are completed. I have never been one to ask friends for financial help, and it’s very humbling to do so, but I am desperate to be able to finally get a reliable van for transportation. Due to my age, multiple health issues, and inability to transfer into an unmodified vehicle, this is my only transportation option.
