Helene Dancing with Team Canada, SLOVENIA '22

At her final dance competition of 2022 and high school graduation year, Helene was recruited by Team Canada Dance/IDO Canada to represent Canada at the IDO World Ballet/Jazz/Modern Championship. Helene was offered a "Golden Ticket" with no audition necessary to join the team. But Helene is not alone! She was recruited along with four dance team members from her home studio, Niagara Dance & Fitness Studio, in Beamsville. She will join her friends Julianna Watt, Natalie Alford, Ava Seca and Addison Gray.

The International Dance Organization (IDO) is a World Dance and Dance-Sport Federation with a membership of over 90 nations, representing more than 250,000 dancers from six continents. The best dancers worldwide will compete for the World Championship title in Sharm El Sheik, Egypt, November 28-Dec 4, 2022. This competition is the Olympics of Dance!

Helene is thrilled to be dancing in the team formations for Ballet, Jazz and Modern, a small Jazz group, and duets in Ballet/Jazz. Helene is training hard for her team to compete and win gold for Canada!

In Canada, dance is not recognized as a sporting event, and, as such, no funding is available to support Canadian dancers. Each dancer is required to obtain sponsors and funding.

The minimum cost for air travel, hotel, rehearsal and entry fees is $4100 CDN. Helene must also pay for costumes and choreography ($2500-$3000) (So Far!).
