Hi, my name is Sarah Caron and I’m helping organize a fundraiser my friend, Helena Long (she affectionately goes by H-Dog).
H-Dog is an exemplary human. She spoke at the Child Abuse Prevention Flag Raising Ceremony on the importance of having a safe adult in your life. She has spoken at an Law Enforcement Award Ceremonies on her local heroes. H-Dog spoke at City Council thanking them for community improvements in general—but it stemmed
from the new street signs in our neighborhood that pointed out lighthouse/pebble beach etc. she thought they were nifty. She’s done gratitude baskets for law enforcement. A spaghetti dinner at the veterans hall for veterans and law enforcement, and a chili dinner for law enforcement, fire, first responders, etc… and she baked cookies for the folks that answer 911 calls.
NOW IT’S TIME FOR US TO HELP H-DOG AND HER INCREDIBLE FAMILY!
Chiari malformation type 1 occurs when the section of the skull containing a part of the brain (cerebellum) is too small or is deformed, thus putting pressure on and crowding the brain. The lower part of the cerebellum (tonsils) is displaced into the upper spinal canal.
When the cerebellum is pushed into the upper spinal canal, it can interfere with the normal flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) that protects the brain and spinal cord.
This impaired circulation of cerebrospinal fluid can lead to the blockage of signals transmitted from the brain to the body, or to a buildup of spinal fluid in the brain or spinal cord.
The pressure from the cerebellum on the spinal cord or lower brainstem causes neurological signs and symptoms such as severe headaches, blurred vision, dizziness, nausea, tinnitus, tingling fingers/toes, and more.
There is no cure, but symptoms can be treated with the decompression surgery she is having.
H- Dog’s parents, Matt and Amira Long are stellar community members that need our help. Please donate what you can, share this on social media, or plan to attend the spaghetti dinner fundraiser on November 12th from 5:30-8 at the Family Resource Center in Crescent City.
