Helen goes trekking in the Arctic!

I am trekking in the Arctic to raise money for a charity, DEBRA, that supports people with EB (epidermolysis bullosa), the worst disease you've never heard of. It is sometimes called Butterfly skin as their skin is as delicate as a butterfly wounding and blistering at the slightest touch. Imagine not being able to cuddle your toddler due to the risk of injuring them. Often their open wounds never heal and in the severe forms they suffer aggressive skin cancer ( frequently fatal) in their 20’s due to the repeated skin damage.

In March, I and a group of 20 other women will travel to the Arctic, camp out and learn to survive the extreme polar cold. Yes, it will be an adventure, but importantly, it is all in a bid to raise awareness and funding for those suffering with EB.

DEBRA is network of charities, named after a child with EB, established to provide support services to patients and families living with this extremely debilitating skin condition. They also drive research into treatments and cures for those living with the condition.

Why am I doing this for DEBRA? The company I work for is developing a product for EB which may help improve the quality of their lives. So I am doing something personally to contribute to the support for these patients.

Please help me raise funding for this truly wonderful charity which receives no guaranteed Government funding, and help improve the lives of those that suffer, and of their families who are generally the full-time carers. Even a small donation will make a difference as I try to reach this goal! Thank you!
