Heighington Cricket Club is a long-established village cricket club founded in 1979 by three friends—one of whom still proudly serves as Chairman, with two generations of his family now playing for the team. Some other team members have had family members play in the team historically and are sadly not with us anymore, and others have played for many years themselves, showing a huge amount of dedication to this team. For over 47 years, the club has been built on community spirit, family involvement, and a passion for grassroots cricket. Many of our supporters, including my own children, have grown up attending matches from infancy through to adulthood. The club continues to attract strong support from local residents who regularly attend home fixtures.
Village cricket is sadly in national decline, with participation dropping by around 5% each year. Lincolnshire once supported five divisions of village cricket; by 2026 this has reduced to just four, with only 37 village teams remaining. Despite these challenges, Heighington Cricket Club continues to push forward. Our Midweek XI has proudly re-joined the Lincoln Midweek League for the 2026 season—its first appearance since 1987—now competing in Division 3. Our First XI remains a committed member of the Lincoln & District League, which we first joined in 1988.
To remain viable and continue offering cricket for future generations, we urgently need support. Funding would help us maintain our ground, purchase replacement equipment (pre owned is welcome), supply cricket balls for the season, and buy a small number of new chairs for spectators. These essentials enable us to keep match days welcoming, safe, and accessible.
We are an inclusive club with ambitions to develop a youth section, a women’s team, and opportunities for beginners to learn the sport. Beyond cricket, the club provides an important social hub that promotes wellbeing, reduces isolation, and strengthens community togetherness.
To raise £400 would make a significant and immediate impact on our ability to continue serving our village in the 2026/2027 season.
Thank you for reading and considering donating to this village cricket club.
