Heidi's Battle with Cancer
Donation protected
I had the pleasure of working with Mike Lockwood in Seattle Police Dispatch from 2012-2015. As a dispatcher and my 911 call trainer, Mike proved to be a fantastic, hardworking ethical public service employee in what is often a high stress, thankless career. Since resigning in dispatch, I learned Mike and his family met with misfortune last spring.
Though Mike's dedication to the public through his career shines, he is first and foremost, a family man. His wife, Heidi and 10 year old daughter, Chloe mean the world to him.
In April 2016, Heidi Lockwood was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a form of plasma cell cancer. This cancer is extreme. It affects Heidi's bones and organs. Heidi is more prone to infection and has been through extensive tests and medical procedures.
Heidi underwent chemotherapy May through November 2016 that put her cancer into a good remission. Unfortunately, Heidi's battle is not over, as she is anticipating going through a high dose of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant within the next month and much more follow up after that. Heidi will be without an immune system for about a month and Mike will need to take that month off work to be her caregiver. Heidi has been instructed by her doctor not to work until at least June 2017.
The Lockwood's medical expenses include insurance deductibles, prescription costs, co-pays, and any medical labs/procedures only partially covered by insurance. Heidi being unable to work and Mike having to miss work has have contributed much to their financial stress. In addition, the Lockwoods pay out of pocket for hospital parking, very frequent transportation to the hospital, and food during long hospital stays.
Mike was reluctant to agree on moving forward with a go fund me site, even though he and his family have already undergone much financial stress for almost a year. After some coaxing, he and his family allowed me to set up this page.
Please consider reducing additional stress by helping the Lockwood family move toward a happy, healthy future. If you know Mike or Heidi, you know they would absolutely return the favor.
