Helping Baby Hoisington fight ABS

During Heidi's 20 week ultrasound, the radiologist found what he thought could potentially be amniotic bands surrounding Jade and Heidi's baby. They were referred to Sioux Falls to a maternal fetal physician to further investigate this possible diagnosis. In Sioux Falls, the doctor confirmed that there was an amniotic band present around the baby's belly. However, the doctor was unsure how this would affect the baby as it grew, so she suggested seeing them in two weeks. At that two-week appointment, the doctor was very concerned as the band around the baby's belly appeared to be constricting quickly and referred Heidi and Jade to the Colorado Fetal Care at Children's Hospital Colorado in Aurora, Colorado. They flew into the Denver area for a consult. There, they were told that Baby H would need to be monitored every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday due to the uncertaintly of potential outcomes of this band. The doctors discussed various options including fetoscopic surgery to release the band. However, fetal surgery poses a high risk of causing premature delivery. Amniotic band syndrome is very rare, and the doctors said that the band wrapping around the belly is almost unheard of. They were also told that Heidi would need to deliver Baby H at this hospital and that the baby would have to remain in the NICU in Colorado until it is safe to go home (which is likely around its due date of Feb. 14). As they've have been monitoring, Heidi and Jade have seen Baby H has been looking very healthy. The doctors do not believe that the amniotic band is causing is physiological issues; however, the soft tissue damage is difficult to ascertain. The plan for the Hoisingtons are to continue monitoring 3x/week. As Baby H gets farther along, the options and outcomes for either fetal surgery or delivery get better. Due to these circumstances, Heidi and Jade are currently staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Aurora, Coloardo. Due to these circumstances, Heidi is unable to work at this time.

Heidi and Jade are unable to return home to Orange City, IA until potentially February.  One way to help Heidi and Jade will be to donate money to help cover medical charges that will be coming due to the extensive appointments and monitoring in Aurora, CO.  I ask for you to all continue to pray for this amazing family in the following stressful weeks to come.  We are all staying positive and know that they are in the best hands with the specialists in Colorado.  Anything will help in this difficult situations for this amazing family!
