Hi, my name is Heidi. I desperately need a car that is road-worthy, but I cannot afford it. My only income is a monthly disability stipend that doesn't cover my day-to-day needs, let alone a "new" car. If you could help me with any size donation, I would be most appreciative. You can be sure that the money you send is spent "as advertised" in this fundraiser!
My story: I am a two-time cancer survivor; a proud, 18-year sober member of AA; and I continue to have significant mental and physical health challenges. (I'm not listing them here as there are just too many, but I am happy to share them with you if you reach out.) I have a "caretaker"; a service dog named Gracie that is pictured with me here. Gracie helps me deal with the difficulties I must face every day.
It's a struggle to survive on my monthly stipend, especially in the D.C. metroplex, one of the most expensive areas in the country. I have a car now, but it is -- without exaggeration -- a death trap! I have no choice but to drive it "until the wheels fall off" unless you can help me.
I am deeply involved in my community chapel. This gives me both great purpose and pleasure. I have been a member and volunteer for the congregation for the past five years. I currently live in a rent-subsidized arrangement, but this is coming to an end, and without a car, I will no longer be able to get to the chapel to help out and, most importantly, receive spiritual help.
