If you have known us for any length of time, this adoption likely comes as no surprise. Many of you know our fondness for children, as well as our personal struggles to start a family over the past several years. Now, while we had certainly considered adoption, it was not something that we had been actively pursuing. But God – two words with absolute power – in His infinite wisdom was faithful in demonstrating His purpose in our struggles. And His purpose always prevails! (Proverbs 19:21)
Sometime last year, we were approached by a friend who told us about a family that was in need of help. She told us about a couple that had become pregnant, and knowing that they could not physically provide care for this child they made the brave and difficult decision to place the child for adoption. After several meetings with the birth family, we were blessed to learn that they had made the decision to place Jacob with us in our home.
As we prepare for this wonderful new chapter in life, we know that there are many adjustments and challenges ahead for us. Most notably, the days of spontaneously going out for sushi are over! But in all seriousness, most families have months if not years to prepare for an event like this. We take heart knowing that this is a gift from above, and there is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord. (Proverbs 21:30)
We are so grateful for each and every one of you. As our friends and family, you make up the wonderful world that will soon also belong to Jacob, and we can’t wait for him to meet you!
