World Robotics Competition
My name is Lainey Hermanson, and I am in 8th grade. I am the captain of the Robocore VEX IQ robotics team. Ava Costine, Tatum Wright and I take part in our school’s robotics program, Ram Robotics, which has competed in the worldwide VEX IQ Robotics Competition. The VEX IQ robotics competition tasks elementary and middle school-aged students with a game-based engineering challenge. Over our three years in Ram Robotics, our team has had many learning experiences, such as growing in our ability to design, engineer, problem solve, and work as a team while building a robot to fulfill the challenge provided.
Our Performance
Throughout the season, we took home multiple awards at state-qualifying tournaments:
• Harrisburg, SD - Design Award*
• Vermillion, SD - Judges Award**, 3rd Place
• Canton, SD - Design Award
• Sioux Falls, SD - Design Award, 2nd Place
• State Contest - Excellence Award***, 2nd Place
By winning the Excellence Award at the state competition, we earned the right to represent South Dakota at the World Championship in Dallas, Texas!
We are asking for your assistance. The VEX IQ Middle School World Championship is from May 1st - May 3rd and it has a $1,800 entrance fee. With lodging, materials costs, and travel expenses this trip will cost the team $6,000 total. We are looking for sponsors who would be willing to support us on our endeavor to represent South Dakota in this competition. We look forward to representing our school, robotics organization and the great state of South Dakota at the world competition that sees teams from over 40 countries and every state in the US attend! I am conducting this fundraiser for the benefit of my daughter and her robotics team going to the world robotics competition. The funds raised will be used by the team members to help defray the costs of the entry fee, travel and lodging. Thank you for your consideration of a donation.

**Judges Award - given to the team that is deserving of special recognition for a specific characteristic or skill the team displays.
***Excellence Award - The Excellence Award is the highest award presented in the VEX IQ Challenge. This award is presented to a team that exemplifies overall excellence in creating a high quality VEX robotics program. This team is a strong contender in numerous award categories. This is the ONLY award qualifying a single team from South Dakota to compete at the World Championships.
