By now you and your children undoubtedly have seen or heard or read about the horrible flooding in Houston. Our hearts go out to all of the families and people impacted by this natural disaster. At times like these, leaders send “thoughts and prayers.” Perhaps there is something more we here at Healdburg Elementary School (HES), Healdsburg Charter School (HCS), and Fitch Mountain Campus (FMC) can do.
Specifically, we will be raising money to send directly to Schmalz Elementary and Betty Sue Creech Elementary, both of which are located in Katy ISD, in the northwest corner of Houston. These schools and their families are being heavily impacted by this natural disaster and could really use our support. (The picture below, for instance, is from a hallway at Creech.)
The money we raise through this initiative will be used to replace books, supplies, technology, furniture, and day-to-day items that facilitate learning in both schools. In some cases the funds also will be applied directly toward helping local families, many of whom were displaced after flood waters forced them to evacuate their homes.
In the interest of full disclosure, I'm an HCS parent working on behalf of the Healdsburg Education Foundation (HEF) to raise these funds. In addition to raising money online through this campaign, a committed group of local students, families, faculty members and district staffers is seeking donations IRL, too. Every penny counts! Donations to HEF are tax-deductible, so if you wish to deduct what you give, please be sure to send us your mailing address.
Thank you for enabling Healdsburg students and families to help Katy students and families recover from this disaster!
