Local Big Island family, the Hedtkes, lost their home when it was flowed over by a river of lava coming from the Kilauea eruption in lower Puna on the Big Island of Hawaii.
The Hedtke Family built their home in 1980 and have been stewards of the land in lower Puna ever since. Their business, Laumana Farms, has been growing and supplying local businesses with delicious oranges, lychees, & other fruit for the past 35 years.
The Hedtke family consists of Richard and Jane Hedtke with their two sons, Terence and Derek, who were both born and raised in lower Puna (Kapoho).
On June 1st, 2018, their lives were forever changed as a flow front from fissure 8 breached a nearby hill and cascasded down across their property, bringing their entire livelihood to a halt.

They spent the better part of the last month helping neighbors and friends evacuate affected areas. Even with the flow heading their way, they continued to offer their help to ensure everyone around them got out safely. They now have to rebuild their lives from scratch.

Friends and relatives are deeply saddened for their loss and have been asking how they can help. I am a close friend/neighbor from Kapoho and want to support their generous family in anyway I can. I set up this to help them recover a small fraction of what they lost.
Please, please donate anything you can to help. All funds collected go straight to the Hedtke family, which will help then pay for survival, rent, and allow them rebuild their lives. Even now, they continue to volunteer their time to help those affected in the lower Puna volcano eruption area.
