Hi, my name is Leigh and my best friend for the last almost 10 years has been a tiny and gentle 9lb long-haired chihuahua named Hector. Hector and I have been through everything together. He’s my first dog of my own. I moved across the country with him. He was here for my graduation from college, my marriage and the birth of my first child. All kinds of crazy ups and downs. We’ve laughed, we’ve cried. He’s just my most important buddy.

Hector was recently rushed to the emergency vet because of labored breathing, after being diagnosed with a grade 4 heart murmur a couple months ago. He was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and kept over night to become stable, followed by a cardiology exam. Hector will need to be on medication for the rest of his life, which they anticipate will be ‘maybe a year’, and hopefully a little bit more comfortable with treatment. The financial strain is overwhelming for me and my family, as we have an 18 month old daughter and another baby on the way in May. So, any little bit helps. Even just prayers would be great.
