Recently my son, Hector Vasquez, was diagnosed with B-ALL Leukemia. B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia is a cancer that affects your "B lymphocytes" -- white blood cells that grow in the soft center of your bones, called marrow. B lymphocytes are supposed to grow into cells that help you fight infections.

It was a shock to him and our entire family to see him be diagnosed with B-ALL. Him and Johana didn’t know what was going on. He was pale, weak, and out of breath. After the third appointment to see a doctor, Johana finally convinced him to go in. He was at the hospital about a week. Doctors stated it may have been a small virus or infection that caused him to be anemic; never crossed their minds it was more serious.

He is currently at UT in Dallas receiving the best medical attention. He is undergoing chemotherapy, blood transfusion, he will not be going home for a month and continue to go under treatment for 2.5-3 years. Due to chemo he has a very low immune system.

It’s been really physically and emotionally turmoil for Johana not being able to be by his side 24/7. Especially right now, as she just found out she is expecting their first born. The new addition to Vasquez clan will be arriving June 2024! She is still working and trying to maintain their expenses. It could be a year of him being out of work and his medical bills have only been accumulating. A lot of you have asked how you can help.
