Hector's Aid: Battling Stage 3 Lymphoma
Donation protected
For more than half of his life, Hector Prego has been an advocate for the deaf community and the LGBTQIA+ community. As a certified deaf interpreter, he has brought access to communication as well as helped to broaden the spectrum of mainstream life for the deaf community. At this time, Hector is in need of aid financially due to recently being diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin's lymphoma (in late December 2024). Leading up to his cancer diagnosis (3rd cancer diagnosis within 10 years), Hector's body had undergone a change.
Dramatic weight loss, very little to no energy, constant fever, and chills. This has left him unable to work and volunteer within the community he cares very much about. Life at home has been a challenge too; moving from one room to another leaves him exhausted. He is unable to take the dog on walks or even for a potty break without feeling tired and rundown.
Hector has undergone many doctor's visits and procedures, hospital stays, and even transportation from one hospital to another. With all of this, medical bills are piling higher and higher with each visit. He had been scheduled for chemotherapy twice, and both times were set back a whole month. He is due to start his chemotherapy in early March 2025.
In the midst of it all, it's hitting the hardest at home. Extensions on rent and utilities have been made, dealing with an older vehicle that has multiple issues that we are unable to repair at this time, picking and choosing between food, health, and hygiene as well as dog food due to rising prices at the grocery store. Having to decide whether or not to go to appointments or reschedule because of lack of fuel or even the means to pay for it.
At this time, we are calling out for aid from the community, family, and friends to help ease the pressure of medical costs, expenses, and bills as well as everyday life expenses and bills.
Hector has been an active member of the deaf community as well as the LGBTQIA+ community for more than 30 years of his life, giving his time, efforts, and love to the people of the community who needed it most. But now it is his time of need.
Thank you for your continued support and for taking time out of your day to read Hector's story. He is eagerly looking forward to getting back out into the community and getting together with friends, making happy memories, and making a difference.
