Heckman Family Farm Fire

Donation protected
Dirk Heckman, 4th generation owner of this beautiful farm, and his daughter Tessalie (5), escaped safely from a devastating fire on 3/31/19. The house and garage, built by the family’s own hands, and all of their belongings have been completely destroyed. Please help them rebuild and rise from these ashes. They have to replace household items, clothing, toys, books, and need your prayers. Please donate through the link and send care packages to Pete Heckman at:

N3992 Black Point Rd.

Dirk’s Great Grandfather, Miros Butchar, came to America from Austria in 1914. He purchased the homestead property in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in 1920 and constructed a log home using the building materials that were naturally available. He designed it in the Gambrel style which was common in the U.P. at that time. He sent for his three children ranging in age from 16 to 18 and raised them at this location.

He died in 1967 and the home sat vacant for several years until Dirk took it upon himself to restore to its original style. He and his daughter Tessalie lived there for 5 years until, sadly, the entire structure was destroyed by fire on March 31, 2019. Thankfully no one was injured but the home is irreplaceable.
