Wow! What an amazing 2025 dance party season we had. Even though Heavy Petting Zoo has only been in the Bay Area for 7 years, HPZ's made its world debut at Burning Man 10 years ago!

Unfortunately, HPZ was not able to make it to Burning Man this year. However, if we can raise enough money, we hope to get her back to the Burn in 2026. In addition to addressing a variety of mechanical concerns, we also hope to remodel the "Cuddle Coral" inside the back of HPZ, which still has its original curtains, cushions and decorations from 2015.

Despite not making it to Burning Man, HPZ had an incredible year, with appearances at Breakfast of Champions/IAND (Great Northern), LOL: Love Out Loud (7th West), unSCruz (San Benito Fairgrounds), The Afterlife (888 Garage), SOSF (The Midway), The SF Pride Parade, Beep! Beep! (Public Works), WOW: Weird is Wonderful (7th West), Decompression (The Loom) and Ghost Palace (Palace of Fine Arts).

The HPZ Winter Blitz Fundraiser is our primary source of funding from November until April.

The Heavy Petting Zoo is not just a Burning Man Art Car, we are an ever-growing, year-around CommUnity of Dancers, DJs, Artists, Performers, Creatives and Advocates of Equality & Inclusivity.

Yes, Burning Man is a huge part of Heavy Petting Zoo's history and our "Origin Story" absolutely starts in Black Rock City. However, Burning Man is only 12 days out of the year for us. The other 353 days we dedicate ourselves to building community through a variety of local Bay Area appearances and free events. We embrace Radical Inclusion, Radical Self Expression and Radical Celebration. Additionally, we actively promote our Consent and Safety Guidelines to ensure that our dance events are safe and feel comfortable for all community members.

Owning, running and sustaining an art car is an endless cycle of repairing, fixing, upgrading, replacing… then doing it all again in a different order hoping it works better this time!
