Heavy Gel x PSLA New Community Studio Fund

Donation protected
Heavy Gel and PSLA  are moving, merging, and growing!

We are dedicated to fostering printmaking in the greater Los Angeles area through a much-needed community hub centered around accessibility and artist involvement.

Heavy Gel will continue offering print and publishing services, facilities, and workshops.

PSLA Projects will expand its programming to include more in-person artist residencies, fellowships, internships, grants, and fundraising.

Since first opening in 2012, Heavy Gel has opened its doors to artists and soon-to-be printmakers, providing hands-on workshops as well as community access to our facilities and equipment. In addition, we offer commission printing for artists, designers, musicians, companies, and brands.

In 2018 we co-opened The Print Shop LA  as a dedicated community space where the public could actively rent the studio to work on their own projects. The studio also functioned as a gallery and event space, hosting print-themed exhibitions, artist and publisher vending opportunities, funded artist residencies, grants, and internships for college credit or studio access. We even gifted a risograph to one lucky printer at one of our exhibitions!

Throughout the pandemic and racial tensions of 2020, PSLA and Heavy Gel, offered safe, private workshops and individual studio access. We opened our Risograph to offer free printing for protest signs. The Trans Healthcare Grant raised over $4,000 going directly to the medical expenses of two recipients. We were able to provide space for one in-person artist in residence. In 2021 we started a new curated publishing program, Artist Series Editions, and awarded 3 remote publishing grants to be printed in our new space.

The studio hopes to be able to offer exhibition, vending, and sales opportunities to the LA community. We are aiming to raise a minimum of 25K in order to cover our moving expenses and expand this accessible printmaking studio to provide art and publishing tools to independent artists.

This support will secure the future of our community printmaking studio and organization, and allow us to keep our doors open to the public. We are dedicated to providing access to printmaking workshops & residencies as well as creating opportunities for publishing, exhibitions, post BFA and MFA opportunities, internships, employment, and studio access.
