Heaven Has No Rage (an Original Musical)

Hello!

We are the team behind the original new musical, Heaven Has No Rage. The show is created by the up and coming musical theatre writing duo Mackenzie Larsen (lyrics and music) and Catherine Chalk (book), and directed by Madison Gerringer.

So what is the show all about?

Heaven Has No Rage is a time-bending new musical that asks, would you sacrifice your reality to reach the one you’ve lost?

The story follows Marie and Aisling; best friends, bandmates, and new mothers. They have released a hit song together, their children are growing up happy and healthy and everything is going (a little too) well. But when Marie finds herself trapped in an alternate timeline in which her daughter doesn’t exist, she risks everything she has to find her way back.

What begins as a seemingly ordinary tale of female friendship and overcoming the odds, quickly spirals into an alternate reality where echoes of another life slip through the cracks, the rumble of an earthquake draws nearer and nearer, and Marie is forced to face the truth that she has buried.

The show features a cast of two actor-musicians and an on-stage band. With music inspired by the likes of Brandi Carlile, Florence and the Machine, and (maybe a touch of) Wet Leg, this female-driven story by an all-female creative team explores themes of female friendship, motherhood, and the seldom acknowledged experiences of infertility, postnatal depression, and miscarriage.

But what are we fundraising for?

We have received support from Southwark Playhouse to use their space to host an industry presentation on Friday 12th July.
This is a performance of our show to industry professionals including producers, venue programmers and potential investors, and is a pivotal point in moving our show from the script to the stage.

The money you generously donate will go towards paying:
  • our orchestrator. This is the person who will take Mackenzie's songs and expand them, writing all the parts for the band instruments (keys, drums, bass guitar and cello). This is a crucial part in the development of the show and we are really excited to hear the fully fleshed out music!
  • our musical director. The musical director will be in charge of playing keys as well as leading the band in rehearsals and making sure everything sounds fantastic.
  • our band! We are hiring a percussionist, cellist and bass guitarist to complete our band. We are hiring them for three days to rehearse and perform in the industry presentation.

Anything else?

Supporters who donate £50 or more will receive a special thanks in our programme so the big wigs of theatre know exactly who is championing new talent!

Supporters who donate £100 or more will receive an exclusive invitation to the show itself!
It is taking place on Friday 12th July at 2pm at Southwark Playhouse in London. We will send further details of the event to you following your donation.

Not available or can't get to London? No problem.
We will be filming the show, so you can be in the room where it happens from the comfort of your home. We will send private links to our generous supporters following the performance in July.

Your contribution will play a crucial role in supporting emerging talents in the performing arts. By supporting Heaven Has No Rage you will be investing in the future of original musical theatre and helping to ensure that meaningful stories about women, by women, continue to be told.

We believe this show has huge potential and we would be honoured to have your support.

Thank you very much!
