♋️Heather Doringer recently went into the Doctor seeking treatment for what she thought were kidney stones, but to her shock was brought into a room with an oncologist and was diagnosed with an aggressive form of soft tissue cancer. The was completely unexpected because she had recently undergone hernia surgery just a few months prior. The symptoms of the hernia never dissipated, and when the doctors found the tumor, they were scrambling to get her to have surgery without getting a second opinion. After having Heather sign multiple consent forms for surgery while on a morphine pump, and having no doctor reach out to me to let me know her condition, we decided against their recommendation and reached out to the Mayo Clinic in Arizona for a second opinion. Thank the lord we did because two days before surgery, they left my beautiful and otherwise healthy wife a voicemail stating to go ahead and do a bowel prep because we will probably have to take her colon as well. Heather is a beautiful wife, mother, and grandmother, and we would happily do anything to save her life, but the lack of empathy shown by the doctors here, the pressure to not get a second opinion, and the complete lack of communication with me, her husband was totally unacceptable. This situation has left us with no choice but to reach out for help.
Living in Hawaii has left us with little options other seeking treatment for Heather on the mainland. We found the Oncology at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix that would accept our insurance for a portion of the treatment. Heather had her first appointment on August 10th, and the experience was one of comfort, compassion, knowledge, and strategy. Within the first few hours they had already determined that Heather has two tumors, not one, and that they should be able to keep her colon intact. The treatment plan consists of a specialized radiation therapy for five weeks, then she needs to rest for four weeks prior to surgery. They are hoping that this might shrink the tumors in size, making it less of an impact on the kidney, which might need to be removed otherwise. Her chances of success with radiation and surgery are much higher than having surgery alone. This has left us with the struggle of maintaining a household with two younger children; Penelope, who is 12 and JJ who is 9; and a husband trying to find a way to make it happen. My work is willing to let me go on emergency leave to take care of Heather, and I have two amazing older children; Olivia 22, and Noah 19, that are prepared to step up in my place.
Heather has always been the first to help her friends and family, or even a stranger on the street without expecting anything in return. She has been an amazing wife of 13 years, a loving mother of 4 children, a favorite grandmother (Nona) of three beautiful grandchildren, and a talented professional as a customs import specialist! She would be the last to ask for help, but under these circumstances we are left with no other options. Any donations will be used to get Heather home to her family in the best condition possible, with the best chances possible. We will be using these donations to cover medical treatment, travel expenses, and to keep a roof over my family’s head. This will make sure that Heather’s health and recovery is possible. Any donation is a blessing, and if you can’t donate please take the time to share our story and pray for Heather’s long road to recovery. Lastly, I will be sure to post updates about Heather’s progress, changes in her condition, and share your love and support with her.
Thank you and God Bless!!!!
Sincerely,
The Doringer Family
