Heathers 40th cycle challenge for SAYiT

It's my 40th birthday this year, and I have set myself the quite frankly ridiculous challenge of virtually cycling the length of the UK before the big day. (On my exercise bike which usually sits in the corner collecting dust and doubling as a clothes horse).

That is 1,743 km (I'm breaking into a sweat just typing that number!) so means me averaging 10km a day from this weekend (13th Feb) until my birthday on 6th August. For those of you who know me and have seen me getting out of breath walking up my own stairs, I'll give you a moment to pick yourselves up from rolling around on the floor laughing...

I am doing this in aid of the wonderful charity I work for, SAYiT www.sayit.org.uk 

SAYiT supports LGBT+ young people and young people affected by HIV, up to the age of 25 through supportive group work, youth action, education, and influence. We also provide a counselling service, training and support for parents and carers.

I attended an LGBT+ youth group as a young person which I then went on to volunteer and then work for and some *ahem* few years later I am in the amazing position of CEO at SAYiT.

Having benefitted from similar groups when I was younger, I am now fortunate enough to see every day how important the work of the charity is to the young people we support. 

And the support is needed now more than ever - with LGBT+ disproportionately facing poor mental health, rising hate crime, and disproportionate cuts to services, in addition to the extra challenges and isolation during the past year during Covid.
