This past Saturday night, April 18th, our good friends Heather and Ricky were riding their motorcycle through LA, when they were hit by a cab driver. Luckily they were both wearing their helmets and have sustained no injuries to the brain, head, neck, spine, or vital organs. Ricky’s ’76 Harley Davidson Shovelhead was totaled in the incident. Upon impact, his chest broke the handle bars off the bike and he is suffering from contusions to the hand and chest.
Unfortunately, Heather’s injuries are even more severe. The car bumper and foot peg of the motorcycle lacerated the bottom of her right foot, resulting in broken toes and the loss of all padding at the ball of the foot. She also shattered her left wrist when thrown 10 feet from the bike. Heather has had surgery to help reconstruct her foot with pins and is waiting for the swelling in her wrist to go down in order to realign her hand through the use of a metal plate.
Once Heather is released from the hospital, the couple will still have a long road to recovery. Ricky is currently missing time at work, as he is unable to lift and move without pain. Heather will lose months of work, confined to a wheelchair for at least 8 weeks, followed by physical rehabilitation. She was expected to start an amazing new job working in vintage apparel this week, but is unable to start working until she has recovered. This all couldn’t come at a worse time, since Heather and Ricky were in the process of finding a new apartment—Their lease is up at the end of April!
We’d love to raise some money for this amazing couple in order to help them with bills, temporary housing and additional living expenses.
