Heather's Health, Home and Hounds

It's been 8 months since our sister Heather's second cancer diagnosis...this time it's stage 3 breast cancer. Three years ago at age 47 she underwent the first of several surgeries. This past February the cancer came back and, following more invasive surgery and months of extensive chemotherapy, she is gearing up for six weeks of radiation treatments. The challenges have been innumerable.
A divorced mother of two, Heather's kids are remarkable; the valedictorian in his high school class Bailey is now a junior at Northeastern University as an honors student in the engineering program and Madison is a senior in high school currently searching for the right college fit. Though they have offered to put their goals and dreams on hold to take care of her full time, she refuses.  Heather is immensely proud of their accomplishments and loves that they are reaching for their dreams.

Asking for help is never easy. We'd like to show Heather what a remarkable support network she has; because what you give comes back to you. For years Heather has been a devoted volunteer for the Elks Lodge in her community cooking and fundraising for others. Always there with a smile and an offer to help, Heather does not ask for anything in return.

Having used up the last of her savings a few months ago and unable to work or drive, Heather has been relying heavily on a small group of friends and family to help her out with everything from electric bills to groceries to rides to treatments. Its been a long distance challenge for her family; her closest siblings live three hours away.

And things continue to get more difficult: in addition to mounting medical bills and routine expenses her water pump and water tank failed in June as did her washer and dryer in July.
Her 2 rescue dogs are overdue for their vaccines, one also needs neutering. And we have now discovered black mold in her master bathroom as well as her basement.

We would really like to help Heather get past some of the rougher bumps in her road and reduce her stress- something on which cancer thrives. We are raising money to help with  her medical bills, transportation, pet care and home improvements as well as day to day living expenses. We would also like to establish a nest egg to give her some breathing room for future bills while she navigates daily radiation through November.
Appreciation and thanks for your support cannot be expressed by mere words.  But know our hearts are full of gratitude for each contribution and prayer on Heather's behalf.
To you our heroes- a simple, humble and sincere - though it isn't nearly enough- thank you.

With warmest regards,
Mary Lee Blackwell
