Hello! My name is Heather Riker, i am a NYS licensed wild life Rehabilitator and this is my story! My whole life i’ve loved animals “ go get heather! she’ll pick it up!” as a snake crosses the grass. growing up i wanted to do so many things, be a marine biologist, be a wildlife rehabber, work in a zoo, anything dealing with animals, i wanted it! looked at me now! now i’m doing it! i’m a full time vet assistant at a vet clinic,a licensed wild life rehabber and in school for a vet tech. i won’t ever stop going the distance for animals so! this is what it’s all about!
wildlife rehab although you need to be licensed, it’s 100% VOLUNTEER! which means how i got started and where i’m at now has been 100% out of pocket. it’s not cheap to rehab animals with needing medical attention, x-rays, surgery, ultrasound, medication, housing, blankets, cleaning supplies, food, proper tools for catching, trapping, bait, protective gear and every thing to help the needs of injured animals to get them back to good health to be released back into the wild. with the mindset of “i have to save them all!” and my favorite Quote from Yogi Berra “it ain’t over till it’s over” the money raised is to build bigger and Multiple enclosures so i have more room for the endless calls of animals in need! enclosures that are prepared to do a soft release indoor outdoor home so the animal can get back used to being outdoors and for better monitoring to make sure they’re OK to be released. as some mothers know formula is not cheap and is crucial for orphan babies so there’s no long-term affects with bone deficiencies and other medical factors. my hope is build a few enclosures for different species that fit their needs and the rest of the money goes to the following: Medical bills, medication, incubators, heating pads, fleece baby blankets for orphans, toys, bedding, ropes and other obstacles for fitness, food. cleaning supplies portable washer and dryier(so i can stop throwing out used blankets/towels for disease control purposes) the list is endless but giving these animals a second shot at life is worth it all! i will get it done one way or another but a little help will go along way! so if you’re like me and have a soft heart for helping animals in need please make a donation! they will thank you! i appreciate it so much! thank you for your support!
