My name is Chanell Correa and I am creating this GoFundMe account on behalf of my cousin Heather Malia Kawainui who is battling Kidney failure.

Heather has been officially approved to be on the transplant list at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona. This entails her to relocate to Phoenix as soon as possible to be ready to accept the organ transplant once one becomes available.

Heather has been living with Type 1 diabetes since the age of 9 relying on daily insulin shots. At 34, she was told her kidneys were no longer functioning properly and despite the doctors working with her to slow the decline, her kidney function decreased and she had to begin home hemodialysis.

This transplant could completely change Heather’s life and give her a chance to regain a sense of normalcy after years of medical challenges to live a life free of insulin and dialysis treatments.

On behalf of myself, Heather, and her Ohana we are humbly asking for your support to help cover medical expenses that are not covered by insurance as well as financial support during her recovery. She will be out of work for a few months following surgery and the funds raised will help to ease any financial burden allowing her to completely focus on healing during this critical time.
