The annual Heather Fitzgerald Scholarship fundraising campaign has begun for this year’s scholarship award. My wife, family and friends can’t believe it’s been 14 years. Again, this year we are looking for donations to keep her memory alive and the scholarship going. The Heather Fitzgerald Scholarship Fund, established in 2012 is a registered nonprofit in Southampton, NY EIN: 463352390. It is in memory of our daughter Heather Fitzgerald who passed away at the age of 30. Heather was a special education teacher at the Hampton Bays Middle School. My wife and I and Heather’s friends set up a scholarship in her memory. A scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating senior student from Hampton Bays schools who is pursuing a college degree in education or special education. As a general guideline, recipients must embrace the spirit of caring, while understanding excellence and hard work. The recipient must also have a zest for life which exemplifies how our daughter Heather truly lived her life.
