Cancer,

It is sometimes difficult to put into words want we want to say to you.  Let me start by saying, you are just a chapter in our life, not our life story.   I can’t say dear. You are not dear to anyone. I never wanted to meet you.  I never wanted to have a personal relationship with you.  But here we are now.

You weren’t here when we got married and became a new family in 2015.  You weren’t here when we planned our life together and set our goals of raising our daughter Kaylee.  You weren’t here when we would go camping as a family, or to the beach, or just to the grocery store.  And you won’t be here to dictate our life.

Life isn’t always the party we planned.  But, we have been making the best of the worst since you entered our lives on Halloween 2016 when Tyler was diagnosed with Melanoma.  When we didn’t let you get us down, you decided in February 2018 to attack Heather and she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Then you spread Tyler’s cancer and he developed a brain tumor the same week Heather came out of the hospital.

When you knock us down, we just say “is that all you have Bitch.”

After many hospitalizations and treatment for us both, we continue to be strong and battle on.

Cancer, we are strong…or are we.  You are back and Tyler now has 2 more brain tumors.  He is unable to work and we are at a loss for his income and racking up hospital bills.  But we will continue to dance by the bonfire and laugh when we can, because we are strong.

Cancer, you are an asshole.

Cancer, we are strong.

Cancer, every day we will challenge you. Everyday this will be a victory for us.

Cancer if you beat us and win this battle, just remember there are others that will continue to fight against you.  We may not be super heroes but according to Christopher Reeve “a hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to preserver and endure in spite of over whelming obstacles.”

Cancer, we are heroes even as we are humbled to ask our family and friends to be our heroes and help with the expenses that you have caused us to endure.

In closing, Cancer, we don’t like you.  You have invaded our life, our home and our future and have tried to take away our joy.  You Suck.

Sincerely,

Heather and Tyler Steinhauser
