CNN Heroes 2021 campaign

Eight years ago, Heather Abbott’s life was forever changed when she was severely injured in the Boston Marathon bombing on April 15, 2013. Her injuries ultimately led to a below-the-knee amputation of her left leg. Abbott learned about the high cost of custom prostheses and wanted to help those who couldn’t afford to get them. In 2015, she created the Heather Abbott Foundation and has since raised more than $1 million and helped dozens of amputees of all ages receive prostheses that allow them to live full, active lives.
