February 13, 2023 - Pete went in for surgery to remove his right kidney that had a cancerous tumor on it. This should have been a 4-hour surgery, although due to complications and also because they found that the cancer had spread, it turned into a 14-hour operation where they could not save his left kidney either. After 31 days in the hospital and rehabilitation facility, he was finally able to go home on March 16. Over the next 2 years, Pete would have dialysis 3 days a week and CT scans every few months to see if the cancer had spread to any other body parts. He went through multiple rounds of treatments throughout these 2 years. His scans were always negative until May 2024, where they found that the cancer had metastasized to his lung, ribs, spine, and femur. In July, he spent some time in the hospital after breaking his humerus, and then in September, he had 2 major surgeries. The first was to stabilize an area in his femur where the cancer had weakened his bone, and the second was a craniotomy to remove 3 tumors. He was such a warrior through every operation!
On March 5, Pete went to the hospital because his blood pressure was so low that they were unable to do his dialysis. After 10 days in the hospital, he was able to go home where he wanted to be. Dialysis wasn’t an option anymore, and a hospice nurse was set up to come in to make him as comfortable as possible. For those next few days, he was completely surrounded by all of those who love him.
Pete has been ill for 2 years. Let us offer Pete's Financial Legacy to help Megan and her family at this time to grieve.
