Hi, my name is Christine Skroski-Kelly, and I’m asking for help during an emergency I never imagined I would face.

My home heating system — a 20-year-old gas heater — completely failed on 1/31/2023 3 years ago.After inspection, an HVAC company confirmed that it is beyond repair. A temporary patch would cost over $3,000, but a full replacement is over $6,000 — far more than I can afford on disability income.

Since my heater broke, I’ve been forced to rely on space heaters to survive the winter. Three weeks ago, I woke up to a smoke-filled room and a blaring alarm — one of the heaters nearly caused a fire. It was a terrifying moment. My pets and I could have lost everything.

I live with multiple serious health conditions including a Chronic Terminal Illness, Chronic Pain which is due to injuries sustained in 5 car accidents which were not my fault, Anxiety, Depression, Mixed Connective Tissue Disease, Hypoglycemia,Tachycardia - a pacemaker,

Arthritis throughout my body,Degenerative Disc Disease, a back injury ,neck injury , and a knee injury that make extreme cold dangerous for me. Without safe heat, my pain worsens and my health declines. I have tried every assistance program available, but funding is limited and waitlists are long. I cannot safely wait months for help.

I am a person who has always helped OTHERS and especially ANIMALS whenever I could. Today, I am humbly asking for that same kindness in return.
