Hey everyone. I adopted harley from a local rescue just about a year ago. Shes a beautiful lab/pointer mix, we think shes about 4 years old. She had all her tests done about a month before I adopted her and showed negative results. At her yearly vaccinations, she has tested positive for heartworm. Since it can take up to 6 months from infection to test positive, the vet believes she had it before her last test unfortunately, which was a year ago. Harley is just the sweetest dog alive and shows love to everyone she comes in contact with. She rarely barks, she spins when shes excited, She protects her family. Im asking for any help that may be available as we start proceeding with treatment. Its a 3 step procedure with 4 nights of hospitilization. Its about a 120 day procedure to fully rid the worms. We are scheduled end of may for a full xray and some other procedures so we can attack this as fast as we can, and show us what we are really up against. She will be fighting this for months, and sweet harley cannot exercise for weeks. With Covid-19, access to veternarians is more challenging and also hurting the supply chain causing heavier prices for these life saving medications. The current estimate from start to finish is sitting between 1800-2000$. This is a long road ahead of us but I will be doing everything I absolutely can to help this girl live a happy, long life.
