Help Us Honor Yuk & Sue Wong’s 47-Year Legacy

For 47 years, Hearts Coffee Shop has been more than a restaurant—it has been a home away from home for thousands of people in our community.

When Yuk and Sue Wong took over Hearts in 1979, they didn’t just buy a coffee shop. They dedicated their lives to creating a place where everyone felt welcome. Long before “community” became a buzzword, they were living it every single day.

For nearly five decades, they opened their doors before sunrise and worked long hours with one simple goal: to serve others with kindness, warmth, and a smile. They celebrated birthdays, graduations, engagements, and retirements alongside their customers. They comforted those experiencing loss, listened to countless life stories over a cup of coffee, and watched generations of families grow up. Many customers who first came in as children eventually brought in their own children and grandchildren.

Hearts became part of their lives, just as they became part of ours.

Yuk and Sue never measured success by money. They measured it by the relationships they built, the friendships they made, and the opportunity to give back to the community they loved so deeply. They quietly gave without expecting anything in return.

Sadly, the past five years have brought challenges unlike any they had ever faced. Rising food costs, inflation, labor shortages, and the changing economy placed an overwhelming burden on a small family business that had faithfully served the community for 47 years. Despite their tireless work and unwavering commitment, they made the heartbreaking decision to close Hearts Coffee Shop on August 9, 2026.

Closing Hearts is not simply the end of a business—it is the closing of a chapter that has defined almost their entire adult lives.

Retirement was supposed to be a time to enjoy the rewards of decades of hard work. Instead, after years of economic hardship, they are entering this new chapter with uncertainty.
