Hello, my name is Joe Walker, and I’m reaching out to you with a story that’s close to my heart. I am honored to be fundraising for Steve Goode, a remarkable man who is a minister, husband, father, grandfather, and a brother to everyone he meets. Steve is an exceptional individual who has touched and improved countless lives, including mine.

Our Friendship and Steve's Impact

I first met Steve in college when we were teammates on the SFA 3X National Champion Debate team. I had to mention that because it still feels great to say, and let’s be honest, any excuse to call yourself a 3X National Champion is worth taking! Steve and I couldn’t be more different, yet somehow, we are so much the same. He was pursuing his degree in the middle age of his life, while I was a 19-year-old kid trying to navigate my newfound freedom as an adult. Despite the differences, Steve took me under his wing and taught me invaluable lessons about life, ranching, baseball, and being a decent man.

Steve's Health Challenges

Steve has always faced challenges with his heart, but you would never know it from his cheerful demeanor and willingness to help others. Unfortunately, Steve is now having more bad days than good ones. He is officially on the UNOS (United Network for Organ Sharing) list, waiting for a heart transplant. The doctors say he could receive a new heart within two weeks to two months.

Recently, Steve underwent a heart catheterization and spent eight days in the hospital to expedite necessary procedures. He is now home, but the situation remains critical. He is expected to undergo cardiac rehab for two weeks, and if unsuccessful, he will be hospitalized again for more intensive support, which will involve an Impella or IABP pump to assist his heart. This will move him from a level 4 to a level 2 on the heart transplant list.

Despite his heart condition, Steve has always shared his love with everyone around him. Now, it’s our turn to give back. He has been there for me and so many others, stepping in when help was needed. I am honored to support him, his wonderful wife Linda, and their beautiful family during this challenging time.
