My name is Maria (Mary) Lazaro. Myself and my partner, Noel Nunez, are setting up a GoFundMe account for Mateo Gutierrez Leal. He passed away in Oxnard on Friday, June 6, 2025. It was an unexpected death for all of us as he was only 21 years old.

Mateo suffered from chronic illness. His chronic illness caused him a sudden, unexpected death. Leaving behind a 2-year-old son.

The family is understandably shocked by this loss and unfortunately not prepared for all that is happening at this time. Losing a loved one is always difficult, but coping with a sudden loss adds a different element to the grieving process. It doesn’t follow a pattern, and there’s often a lack of closure. There are also added financial stressors, such as the cost of planning a funeral and other expenses.

We'd like to show our support to Mateo’s family during this difficult time by helping them cover unexpected costs due to his sudden tragedy. Anything you can do to help Mateo’s family during this time of heartbreak is greatly appreciated.
