Help us keep Heartbreak's heart beating...
First of all, we hope that you are safe and well, and carrying on as best you can in these difficult and uncertain times.
Heartbreak Productions has been touring the UK with open air theatre for nearly 30 years. We have carried on through droughts and tempests, performing for audiences in their hundreds, sometimes encased in wet weather gear whilst eating very soggy picnics. The current situation, however, presents quite a different challenge. Given the current government guidelines on the situation with Covid-19, and the number of venues who have postponed their bookings to 2021, it is with a very heavy heart that we have had to cancel our summer tour.
As most of our income comes from touring, we will find it very difficult to keep afloat until 2021. Therefore, we are asking that if you can, you donate a small amount to the "Keep Heartbreak's Heart Beating" fund. 20 weeks down the line, the reality of the situation has become clearer and our revised target of £12,000 is crucial for planning 2021/22 seasons.
And now for the exciting news… we have received a grant from the Arts Council for a project to support young people’s creativity. Tell My Story , a multi-media competition aimed at children aged 8-14 will launch today on our social media channels. Children will be asked to submit a story in one of four formats (written, music, visual art, video) on the theme "Escape from Lockdown", and we will choose eight to develop into five minute films. The children will be involved in developing their own films via video link, thus providing them with a valuable experience of working with creative professionals. The films will premiere September 11th online, giving us all something to look forward to. The grant from the Arts Council will fund the Tell My Story project, which will provide work to 5% of the original creative team.
We are very fortunate to receive this but it will not sustain the company throughout the next 12 months. Therefore, in order to keep Heartbreak up and running and ensure we can be back touring next summer, we will be greatly reliant on fundraising and donations, and any help you can give is very much appreciated.
We are carrying on our Heartbreak at Home series through the summer, so be sure to sign up to our mailing list or follow us on social media to be notified which title is showing. We are also hosting polls to determine which play to show next, so be sure to have your say!
It will feel very strange not to be setting off this summer for a rollicking ramble round the UK. We wish you all the best, and we look forward to seeing you again in the summer sunshine.
