Soy Melvin, pero muchos en nuestra comunidad Latina me conocen con cariño como “Gato”. El 1 de enero de 2026 cumplí 47 años. Hace ocho años fui diagnosticado con una enfermedad cardíaca llamada cardiomegalia: mi corazón es mucho más grande de lo normal y cada día le cuesta más funcionar. Con el tiempo mi salud se ha deteriorado gravemente. Hoy vivo con arritmia, presión alta, mala circulación, falta de aire, fatiga constante y retención de líquidos. Actividades simples del día a día se han vuelto una lucha diaria.

Durante años he seguido todos los tratamientos posibles y he tomado múltiples medicamentos con especialistas del corazón. Lamentablemente, los médicos han sido claros: los tratamientos ya no están funcionando. La única opción para salvar mi vida es un trasplante de corazón.

Hace apenas un mes recibí la noticia más difícil de mi vida: sin este trasplante, me han dado aproximadamente seis meses de vida.

Debido a mi situación migratoria, no puedo viajar a Guatemala para recibir atención médica. Sin embargo, tengo una esperanza real a través del Stanford Heart Transplant Program en Palo Alto, California, donde tengo una mejor oportunidad de recibir el trasplante que necesito para vivir.

Hoy necesito ayuda para poder cubrir los gastos médicos, de viaje y de estadía relacionados con este proceso tan urgente. Con humildad y con fe en Dios, pido su apoyo. Cualquier donación, oración o forma de ayuda puede acercarme a la oportunidad de seguir viviendo y de continuar siendo hijo, hermano y tío, y seguir siendo parte de esta comunidad que tanto amo.

My name is Melvin, but in our Latino community many know me lovingly as “Gato.” On January 1st, 2026, I turned 47 years old. Eight years ago, I was diagnosed with a serious heart condition called cardiomegaly, meaning my heart is much larger than it should be and struggles more each day to function. Over time, my condition has worsened. I now live with arrhythmia, high blood pressure, poor circulation, shortness of breath, constant fatigue, and fluid retention. Even simple daily activities have become a daily struggle.

For years, I have followed every treatment and taken many medications with heart specialists. Sadly, my doctors have made it clear: treatments are no longer working. The only way to save my life is a heart transplant.

Just one month ago, I received devastating news: without this transplant, I have been given about six months to live.

Because of my immigration status, I cannot travel to Guatemala for medical care. However, there is real hope through the Stanford Heart Transplant Program in Palo Alto, California, where I have a better chance of receiving the transplant I urgently need.

Today, I need help covering the medical, travel, and living expenses connected to this urgent process. With humility and faith in God, I ask for your support. Any donation, prayer, or act of kindness brings me one step closer to the chance to keep living and continue being a son, brother, and uncle, and a member of the community I love.
