Heart Transplant for Sabrey Smith

We are the Friends & Family of Sabrey Smith and we are reaching out to you to help raise funds in support of Sabrey and the expenses that she will incur during her travels to Duke University Hospital for her upcoming Heart Transplant Surgery.

About Sabrey:

In 2014 Sabrey ( or "Bree" as she is affectionately known) was diagnosed w/ Congestive Heart Failure and relocated from Houston, Texas back home to Greensboro, NC to be near family as she battled with her heart health. On August 19, 2016, Bree underwent Open Heart Surgery to have an LVAD ( Left Ventricle Assist Device ) to assist her heart with pumping and to prolong her life. The average life expectancy for an LVAD patient is 7-10 years. Bree had a strong faith in God and being grateful for this new chance for life, immediately began working within her community to give back to those that need her. Often on the road in her little red truck, she is known to provide transportation to the elderly and others for doctor's appointments, grocery pick up, bill paying and running errands. She also hosts community yard sales, cookouts, and holiday events and never passes up the opportunity to celebrate birthdays.

On Tuesday, April 25, 2023. Bree received the phone call that we all had been praying and waiting for; She is officially on the Heart Donor list and can be called at any time to receive her transplant surgery.

While we are excited and grateful to God we also know that this will be the beginning of the most challenging time of her life physically, emotionally and financially. She will be required to be transported back and forth ( 1 hr & 5 min drive) to Duke University Hospital for medical testing, as well as be required to stay overnight for some tests. Post Op she will have a lengthy hospitalization, medication expenses, medical procedures, monitoring by the transplant team rehabilitation, food for new dietary restrictions, ease of daily life accommodations, and household expenses and will require home care 24/7 until she is fully able to return to care for herself.
