Lee had a heart attack in 2015 and had a stent placed. He was doing well with that and about 2 months ago he started having a lot of swelling in his legs. He gained probably 50 lbs in water weight. He went to the doctor and they put him on lasix. He wasn’t getting any better. He finally went to the er because he was having difficulty breathing just walking to the bathroom. He went to Pocahontas ER on his birthday. They evaluated him and transferred him to fort dodge unity point. He stayed there 2-3 days until he was transferred to Omaha/ University of Nebraska hospital. They put him on medication and tried to get the fluid off of his body. He lost 70+ lbs. he was discharged a little over a week later. He was sent home with a PICC line and on 24hour medication that was pushed in through his PICC line. He would go every Monday to get dressing changes and blood drawn. He wasn’t getting better and the fluid started slowly coming back. On Friday he was told he needed to get the Omaha as soon as he can. He was told his bloodwork was critical. He was bought to the hospital. He had test completed and imaging done. He was told his heart is really bad. He want in for a balloon procedure and ended up leaving out of surgery on ECMO. This is where a machine removes the blood from the body and replaces it with oxygenated blood. He was then told he needed a heart transplant. He was put on a level 1 out of 6 for urgency. We received a call later that day saying they had a good candidate if he accepted. He did of course. Now we are just waiting for the surgical team to give the green light. They are saying it is a delicate process. They said today that if the weather cooperates then he will have his heart transplant procedure in the morning
