Most of Rob’s friends remember him as the healthy, happy chappy who ran his company, Rob Marine, for many years on the island of St. Maarten in the Caribbean, specialising in air conditioning and refrigeratiion. After hurricanes Irma and Maria directly impacted St. Maarten in September 2017, he moved to Belize with his wife Angie and set up shop here, albeit on a much smaller scale.

Three years ago, Rob started experiencing severe discomfort in his chest and after consulting with Cardiologists in Belize, he underwent surgery to insert stents in two of the main valves to increase the blood flow to his heart. The surgery was a great success and still is!!

Of late, Rob’s health has once again deteriorated with chest discomfort and fatigue largely limiting his ability to work. This time we travelled to Merida in Mexico to meet with specialists as Merida is well known for their excellent healthcare professionals and hospitals. After a multitude of tests and scans, it was found that the Pulmonary Artery to one of the chambers to his heart is almost entirely blocked with a buildup of calcium. The Cardiologist is confident that he can carry out the intricate surgery involved, along with his dedicated team of medical staff, to clear this and insert a further stent.

During this flurry of examinations and tests for Rob, Angie had an examination with one of the doctors as she had been experiencing severe stomach cramps for the past couple of months. After a bunch of tests and a CT scan, she was diagnosed with severe anaemia brought on by a melanoma in her small intestines. After stabilising the anaemia, she was dashed in for surgery and hospitalised for 3 weeks. Angie will be receiving ongoing treatment for her condition in Mexico for the next few months.

We are confident that both Rob’s surgery to get “the old ticker” pumping as it should and Angie’s treatment will be successful.
