As many of you know, my sister and her husband recently had the scare of a lifetime with their 2 week old son Grayson.
Saturday January 18, 2020 Grayson started to have less of an urge to eat. On Sunday they took him to urgent care where he was thought to have acid re flux. That evening everything seemed fine. They gave him one does of the medication and would follow up the next day (Monday) with the pediatrician at Grayson's 2 week appointment. This is when their whole world was turned upside down.
The pediatrician immediately sent my sister and Grayson to the ER because he didn't like his breathing and color. After numerous test it was discovered that Grayson had an enlarged heart. The ECHO test revealed a coarctation of the descending aorta.
The Kangaroo transport team from Texas Children's Hospital in Houston flew to Lubbock to pick up Grayson and bring him to Houston for heart surgery.
On Tuesday January 21, 2020, Grayson went into surgery for a coarc repair and PDA ligation.
Grayson is doing well but is still in the hospital. He has been moved to a room out of cardiac ICU and is slowly on the mend receiving constant testing, medications, CT Scans, MRI's, blood test, etc. They have recently found a blood clot on his brain that is being treated with medication.
Its a lot for his 3 week old life to undertake but he has shown us what real STRENGTH is all about. This is and will be a long, and emotionally exhausting experience for my sister, her family, and quite frankly all of their family and friends.
All this being said; myself and a few other family members have decided to take it upon ourselves to try and help our family out in any way we can, and wanted to set up a 'go-fund-me' page to hopefully keep their minds at ease and focus on baby Grayson and not the tremendous expenses they will incur.
Multiple ambulance rides, 2 hospital visits, private plane from Texas Children's Hospital with medical crew on board to transport Grayson to Houston, heart surgery, 9 day stay in cardiac ICU, so many test, medications, etc. I could go on but I think you get the point.
Once Grayson is healthy enough to leave the hospital they will have to continue administering medication for the short term.
There is still so much unknown about what all of this will cost and I don't know what a "right number" is, but I had to start somewhere.
Donations will go to medical bills, medication, follow up appointment (travel to Houston) and I'm sure so much more for this sweet boy.
God is SO GOOD and he gave us quite a scare with this sweet boy, but I know Grayson has a special guardian Angel with him helping guide him through all of this.
Thank you for all of your continued thoughts and prayers for our family.
