Help Us — A Sacred Trust: Two Sisters Fighting to Save Their Families From the Ruins of Gaza

I am Nurse Nada Al-Baba, and my sister is Nurse Nesma Al-Baba. We are two sisters — each carrying the weight of an entire family — trying to survive in Gaza, where life has become unbearable, and the future feels impossible.

Every day, Nesma leaves her three children in a broken tent to tend to the wounded — unsure if she’ll make it back. I, Nada, am a mother of four and a nursing student with top grades, yet I am powerless in the face of my children’s hunger, illness, and fear.

We live in tents that burn in the summer and freeze in the winter. We can’t cook on gas anymore — we cook over open flames, inhaling smoke, burning our hands, just to prepare the simplest meals. Insects swarm our children, the humidity causes painful skin conditions, and the fear never stops.

Even bread has become a dream. A single sack of flour costs $500, and one basic meal for a single family costs $30. With two families, that’s $60 a day just to feed our children one simple meal.

Our children no longer ask for toys — they ask for food.

They no longer speak of dreams — only survival.

They cry when they hear the bombs. They shiver through the cold nights. They wake up asking for bread, for safety, for peace.

Before the war, Nesma was pursuing her Master’s degree. I was advancing in my nursing education. But war destroyed everything — our homes, our books, our devices, our jobs, and our sense of stability. We lost everything… but not hope.

Now, our only hope is to leave Gaza — to escape the destruction, the fear, the hunger, and to rebuild our lives where our children can be safe, fed, educated, and healed.

We are not seeking luxury — we are seeking survival. We are seeking the right to live.

To do this, we need $80,000 — to cover travel and temporary living expenses for our two families, to complete my nursing degree, and for Nesma to return to her Master’s program with a new laptop.
