In May of 2019, the City began construction on NW Market Street to make improvements to the aging road. Today, facing the sight of torn up streets, few answers from the city, and potentially more than a year of construction remaining our core of a dozen small businesses are at a complete loss.
We are here to ask for your help and your care as part of the Seattle Community. Our businesses bring art, food, creativity, and craft to Ballard West (the area between the Ballard Locks and 24th & Market). We believe that this small act of caring rebellion, of coming together to hold onto and support this core of small businesses is indicative of the Seattle community - it is a move towards caring more, not because we have to, but because when one of us thrives, we all do.
As the Heart of Ballard, we are working with local organizations, elected officials, and larger companies to raise awareness and funds to help stabilize the small businesses through the end of construction in 2021.
Community and human connection are at the heart of living better and telling better stories. Let’s tell this one, together.
♥ The Heart of Ballard ♥
The Heart of Ballard is assembling the “Heart of Ballard Fund Advisory Board.” This advisory board will be comprised of Ballard business owners affected by the Market Street construction projects as well as other community members. The Ballard Alliance will serve as its fiscal sponsor.
The advisory board will manage fund disbursement to affected businesses as well as focusing on solving community issues through a small business lens. The long-term goal is to create a resource to help our unique mix of independent, community-minded small businesses grow and thrive.
